Andy’s distance vision has gotten bad. He had them checked and he needs glasses now. He has never had glasses before all of the MM. The eye doctor said he sees some cataracts developing. He needs to get a thorough eye exam. Not just one for glasses. I am hoping nothing else is going on. I am currently on eye drops for high eye pressure/glaucoma. It is just a family thing for me, no MM. The drops are working great! Hope you get your eyes taken care of properly. 🙏

Multiple myeloma can affect the eyes and vision in several ways. Here are some key points:

Eye Symptoms Associated with Multiple Myeloma:
- Blurred Vision
- Floaters
- Flashes
- Skin around the eyes that bruises easily or appears bruised
- Bulging Eyeballs
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Dry Eyes
- Sore Eyelids
- Pain around or behind the eyes

Causes of Eye Complications:
1. Plasmacytomas: Tumors made of myeloma cells can develop in or around the eyes, causing pain and vision problems.
2. Hyperviscosity: Thickened blood due to high levels of immunoglobulins can block blood flow to the eyes, potentially causing temporary vision loss.
3. Blood Clots: Myeloma can increase the risk of blood clots, which can affect the blood vessels leading to the eyes.
4. Infections: Myeloma and its treatments can lower white blood cell counts, making eye infections more likely.
5. Side Effects from Treatments: Medications for myeloma, such as Bortezomib (Velcade), can cause various eye and vision issues.

Recommendations:
- Regular Eye Exams: It's important to have regular check-ups with an ophthalmologist.
- Immediate Medical Advice: Contact your medical team if you experience any changes in vision.

Additional Notes:
- Vision changes can be an early symptom of myeloma.
- Myeloma treatments may include antiviral medications to prevent infections.
