Louis,
I remember hamburgers tasting like cardboard and steaks even worse. Things will get better so hang in there. Doctors are not infallible, but they too can learn from us. I had a lot of luck with my oncology nurses who were very helpful.

your answer is already better than the "We don't know" answer I got from my oncologist. Thank you. For me the taste of beef and wine were the most severely affected. Taste of beef has recently improved. I am about 90 days post transplant.

I lost taste during the RVD protocol treatments and spoke with my healthcare team about solutions. I remember it lasting quite a while. My best solution was to very lightly brush my tongue, use Tom’s natural toothpaste , rinse ,and taste returned. However, eventually we reduced my treatments as a normal course of my progress to elimination of dexamethasone and Velcade to just Revlimid maintenance. I also had reduced most of my medications for the side effects that came due to treatments during RVD. I am just on maintenance Revlimid progressing from partial to a complete response over time. I still have notable multiple myeloma , but indolent (biological lazy), and stable IgA Kappa light chain multiple myeloma. I am not cured but in remission.

It was awful, but be patient and taste will return. I am of Italian descent and love food and wine so it was not easy. I hope you improve soon. It is a good question to pose to your oncologist or nurse on your next appointment. πŸ‘
