Saratoga Springs, NY

I am just experiencing this for the first time. I am not exerting myself at all so that is not the cause.

Yes do let your doctor know. I bought a small plastic apparatus they gave me in the hospital when I had my asct and use it quite a bit to get oxygen into my lungs.
Your health care provider may recommend that you use an incentive spirometer after surgery or when you have a lung illness, such as pneumonia. The spirometer is a device used to help you keep your lungs healthy. Using the incentive spirometer helps you take slow deep breaths.
It’s really cheap to buy and helps me with breathing.
Eating apples which have lipoic acid helps plus for anemia I take b-12 drops making sure it’s methylcobalsmin.
Cyanocobalamin is synthetic while methylcobalamin is natural. But the body can convert synthetic forms into natural ones. Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is an important water-soluble vitamin involved in red blood cell production, brain health, and DNA synthesis ( 1 )
Exercise is another way to get oxygen into our lungs I can only use an indoor bicycle right now but wished I had a swimming pool cause I love to swim. I used to take my mom to the fitness club to swim her laps and we so enjoyed that.
Oh and last but not least is watch your favorite comedies like carol burnett and funny movies laughter is the best way to get oxygen into your lungs!!!

Hi Ruth. The Revlimid and dexamethasone made me short of breath. Now the Pomalyst makes me short of breath. Let your doctor know right away. As you know our treatments can cause blood clots. So you need to get checked out just to make sure.

I would recommend taking your vitals every day. Especially when you first wake up and another time later in the day. Blood pressure, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation levels.
I was able to find by myself an antiviral drug called Dapsone putting me into hypoxia.
Earlier this week when I was not feeling well, my oxygen levels were down. And almost every time I have trouble breathing, my oxy levels are low. So it's a good diagnostic tool.
Then learn and write down every medical event for research. What I discovered this week was water retention in my lungs and feet. I still get this after the SCT. I take an OTC water pill (works better for me than lasix) and breathing and low blood oxy cleared up.
Just a rant/comment. Doctors do not collect and review small medical events like these. If you say you are having trouble breathing, they don't review your medical records for prior events. Sometimes the nurses do.
So you have to do their job for them and keep a medical diary.
Good luck and I know you'll solve your breathing problems. You have already got the process started by posting this question.

Hi Ruth,
My Creatine is high, so I was just looking up information on Kidneys and saw shortness of breath was one symptom. Anemia is another (Low Red blood cells) This is something that needs to be address immediately. Call your doctor. I was having this problem especially at night and would wake up with a splitting headache (Lack of oxygen causes brain damage). I would stop breathing multiple times a night. I started using a C-Pap machine to help get air into my lungs. This may have been related to my heart and kidneys. Not sure. Do yourself a favor a sit partially up (with pillows) in bed at night until this issue is resolved.
