My Myeloma Specialist Just Wants To Wait And See As My Numbers Keep Going Up. When Did You Decide To Get A Second Opinion.
I do not have any CRAB symptoms. My IgA is over 600 my Lambda is over 1600. My M-Spike is at 2.1. I am 20/20/2. Not bone marrow plasma is at 30% as of 9/22. My light chain ratio is .05. My 1Q is deleted. The hospital is UT Southwestern.
My understanding is that the decision on whether to treat SMM is based on certain risk factors: serum free light chain (SFLC) ratio ≥ 100, at least one bone lesion on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) > 1 lesion, and bone marrow plasma cell % ≥ 60%. If you have none of these factors, maybe your doctor feels you are in the 90% of SMM patients that will NOT progress to full MM in the near future. So watching and waiting may well be the best path right now. Given the potential side effects of current treatments, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Furthermore, starting treatment now might reduce your options in the future if it does develop into MM. Hang in there!
I have received no treatment. I was diagnosed with smoldering MM in 6/2020. I get blood a urine testing every 3 months and my numbers keep going up but since I have no CRAB symptoms just neuropathy she doesn’t want to begin any treatment.
Big hugs your way Wendell. I hope your numbers stay very stable 💖🙏
Yeah that’s why I have decided too stop taking chemo because I am tired of being sick from the side effects of my cancer treatments so I am taking a break.
Chuck, it would probably give you peace of mind to get a second opinion with a top myeloma Specialists at a center that does Research and clinical trials. Your doctor should welcome a second opinion. Good luck. I'm glad yours was caught early 💕💖
