Immune Precautions?
Hi, everyone-
What are your thoughts about protecting yourselves from infection? I’m in the middle of induction therapy and I wear a mask when I go out in public and I avoid crowded places. I know that after I have a stem cell transplant, I will have a really compromised immune system. Is there a way to know how compromised your immune system is from your lab tests? My white blood cells are all within normal limits but my neutrophils are pretty much at the bottom of normal. Just wondering if… read more
You can never be to careful. You are your own advocate so listen to your body. Watching your numbers is great too. Two things I don't want is an infection or pneumonia. I'm the only member of my immediate family that hasn't had covid yet have this terrible disease. Just had another antibody test this week and my system shows that I have never had Covid. Hoping this stays true.
Rest assured that you are taking all the necessary precautions to stay safe. I, too, have been diligent in wearing masks, gloves, and long-sleeved shirts, as well as avoiding crowded areas. Despite my best efforts, I did contract COVID-19 after attending a family gathering during the Christmas holiday. So please continue to be cautious and stay safe.
You are not being too careful. Neutrophils are a good indicator to be extra careful.
