Hi there. How did you tolerate 100 days in isolation after your SCT? I'm considering a transplant but with my family living in the same house I'm afraid I'll get an infection. This is keeping me from choosing the SCT at the moment. Thanks for any advice. Also why do you need a second transplant. That's another worry of mine.

For people with multiple myeloma, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend seasonal flu shots for anyone who currently has cancer, everyone who lives with and cares for those with cancer, and those who have survived cancer in the past. For those who have received autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplants, the CDC recommends annual flu vaccines beginning one year after the transplant was completed.

Key points:
- Seasonal flu shots are recommended.
- Annual flu vaccines should start one year after a stem cell transplant.

I went to my pharmacy. There are 15. But I need polio and all childhood vaccines. Now, I am a special case. I’m getting another bone marrow transplant (SCT) in February so I will be wiped out again! I just have to be careful between now and June 12 my 73rd birthday. Why? Because it takes 100 days of recovery after the Melphalan goes in. I really wish every MM patient reading this felt as good as I do today. I mean that. I have minimal problems. Very minute. It’s just that I can’t work because of limited use of my arm and I need a nap every 3 hours. I just need more siestas than normal. But I am so lucky I could cry knowing I’ll be fine for a long time. When the time is right I will expire. And I am ready. But I digress. Doc says to get new Covid booster, flu shot and RSV shot when they come out around October. It’s another beautiful day here in Suburban Philadelphia
