How Are MM Lesión Treated In Spine, Ribs And Neck Area?
Xgeva and Zometa will create a hard edge at the perimeter of a lesion but it will not fill in the missing bone of the lesion. Both will cause bone pain and the possibility of jaw damage. If you get to Complete Remission and stop all MM Meds, including Xgeva and Zometa, your natural osteoclast and osteoblast do return to their normal bone regeneration mode (as told to me from my specialist at at Johns Hopkins - he’s my second Doc, working with my local oncologist). I was on Xgeva for six months (was expecting years of it) and was taken off Xgeva once I changed to Monitoring Mode of no MM Meds.
Chemo and radiation (radiation helps with targeting the pain) and then (most important to check with your dentist before doing this) they put you on a bone medication Zometa (my husband is on this) but it has been causing him a lot of bone pain. And we were told this would happen. They say this will help rebuild bones and lesions. Calcium and vitamin D, collagen, and bone broth are what we are adding to this regimen.
JD, they treat lesions with chemotherapy or radiation or both. Bisphosphonates, bone strengthening drugs are also used. Some doctors recommend calcium and vitamin d supplements when your myeloma is controlled. Hope this helps 🥰💕
Induction should help heal the lesions. If they are large or result in compression fractures there is a “cement” they can use between the vertebrae to help strengthen the spine. Otherwise bone builder shots over time should help.
This is what I'm currently taking, although in remission since December. So no more Chemo right now.
