I Am 72 And Was Diagnosed With Stage 2A MM In 6/19. Had RVD Chemo For 4 Mos. Which Brought Canc Cells From 70 To 30% In My Bone Marrow.

Last 9 mos. treatments have been weekly with Velcade and steroids and Darzalex every 3rd week. My M-1 Spike protein has been pretty steady at 1.1 to 1.3. Still have some fatigue, weakness and get out of breath easily. I get XGEVA shots monthly. Bones (except lower back mainly from golf) are in good shape. Same as with kidneys. I’m not eligible for bone marrow transplant due to age

I had 8 months of 3 drug combo chemo. Got my numbers down but not to zero. There are 9 mm specialists at the cancer center I go to. One doctor said continue with the chemo, another had a different opinion and told me she thought I had platoed. She told me to have the sct. I did and it got all my numbers to zero and mrd. I am 72 years old. If you are in decent health no reason why you can't get sct. Get a second opinion from a mm center.

dbuzzer, I do know that City of Hope in Duarte, Calif. does SCT’s into the 80’s. They are the best in the nation and patients come from all over and stay in the Villiage with a caregiver. They have been doing them for over 34 years and have done over 15,000 SCT’s. It will depend on how your health is. They also do a mini SCT for patients that may not tolerate a regular SCT. There are other medications your doctor can try. Selinexor is an option if you have failed 5 previous treatments. It is an oral medication and It has had very good results. Love, Marcia 🌸

I was 72 when I had my stem cell done. Everything went great. Ask your doctor again.

I don’t think your eligibility for a bone marrow transplant is limited by age. I had mine when I was 76. I was in good physical condition for my age, which helped.
