Did you have an MRI, PET scan or CT?

Yes, my husband had all of those when first trying to get diagnosed. At the end of 4 months of treatment, he had all these again so there was a comparison to the base-line tests done originally. This is the path the doctors use from diagnosis, to treatment, to analysis of the patient's progress, or lack thereof as the case may be. Additionally, a bone marrow biopsy may be ordered. This is the most definitive of all the tests and confirms a suspected diagnosis after all 3 of the others have been done. One problem we ran into though, was that our insurance company would not approve the PET scan until a biopsy was done, so we had to do the biopsy first, but all 4 tests are important. The MRI, PET scan and CT are not painful. You just lay on a table while the machine does all the work. The Bone Marrow Biopsy has been reported by some as being painful, but both of them that my husband had were not painful at all. They used a local anesthetic on the area where they insert the needle, and there is some pressure, but no pain. Some people ask for a conscious sedation for the bone marrow biopsy--this insures that you don't feel anything. Hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask questions on this site. Everyone is extremely willing to answer and help since we've all been there before. Welcome to the site!

I had a Pet Scan two weeks ago and it came back clear. My ONcologist does

I’ve had all of those exams. They use the images to track size of tumors and if new lesions appear. They are not painful at all, just the MRI can get trying from all the noise, but it’s worth it!
