Does A Low Body Temperature, Below 97 Degrees, Indicate Anything Related To MM?
I think with our myeloma, we have to go by how we feel. I have had pneumonia a couple of times and sepsis twice. I didn't actually start running a high fever until I was really getting into trouble. I couldn't hardly sit up. So, you just have to know your body and get checked out when you don't feel right. We don't have a immune system. Having a fever is a way our body fights an infection. Since we don't have the right antibodies, our bodies sometimes just don't run a fever. I also check my pulse ox to make sure my oxygen level is okay. It can go down with infections.
A low body temperature below 97 degrees, while not a direct indicator of multiple myeloma itself, can be a sign of a compromised immune system, which is a key feature of multiple myeloma, meaning a low temperature could potentially indicate an increased risk of infection in someone with the disease and warrants further investigation with a healthcare professional; however, a low temperature alone is not diagnostic for multiple myeloma and can have other causes like hypothyroidism or low blood sugar.
Key points to remember:
Immune system impairment:
Multiple myeloma affects the bone marrow, which produces white blood cells crucial for fighting infections, so a low body temperature could signal an infection due to a weakened immune system in someone with multiple myeloma.
Symptoms of infection:
If you have multiple myeloma and experience a low body temperature alongside other infection symptoms like chills, fatigue, or redness at a wound site, it's important to seek medical attention.
Other causes of low temperature:
A low body temperature can also be caused by conditions unrelated to cancer, like hypothyroidism, low blood sugar, or simply being in a cold environment
Sorry so lengthy it’s what I found in google.
As far as my temperature it varies mostly at 98.5 just under normal I’m sure due to low immune system because of mm.
Not counting hot flashes.
My temperature is usually 97 point something; NOW that's my new normal. So if I have a temp. of 98.6, do I have a fever? I was told no; the standard is still over 100. Is this ttrue?
My temp is 97 a lot. My IgG is barely at 400 so it’s definitely compromised. I figured my body is just used to my cold house. I don’t feel sick at all but I do overheat easily in warm weather.
Some times people with a weakened immune system, can run a sub normal temperature when they have an infection. We might not exhibit the normal signs of an infection because our bodies aren't able to. So we need to get checked out when we feel bad, even if we aren't running a fever. 🥰
