Has anyone had kyphoplasty? Do you feel better and was it worth doing?

Shipmate Jeff, I had 9 compression fractures repaired with kyphoplasty in 2021 and 2022. My doctor was exceptional, caring and very knowledgeable.. His dad passed away many years ago from Multiple Myeloma. My T-9, T-10, T-11, T -12, L -1, L-2, L -3, L- 4 and L -5 were repaired with kyphoplasty. The doctor only could repair 2 at a time. I hav recommended him to others. You bet your life, it was well worth it. I could not get out of bed by myself. It took me more than 30 minutes to get out of bed. The pain was unbelievable. I would definitely recommend it. Wishing you smooth sailings shipmate with many blessings. Enjoy your evening.

Jeff, my fractures were from at least February or March 2023. You do not have the right doctor. I have no more pain in my back. It is wonderful! I do have some nerve pain in my feet from the nerves being compressed for so long. I had an injection and this has helped some. My surgeon said it could take up to a year for this to resolve completely.

I wish you the best in finding someone to help you.

Two weeks ago I had additional kyfoplasty/verteboplasty with the addition of Spine Jacks in my vertebrae. Dr. Jensen from University of Washington, did an outstanding job and successful repair of my L2 and L5. Two weeks out I have no back pain except for the surgical tenderness. The only pain I still have related to my back pain is some neuropathy in my left leg and foot. Dr. Jensen gave me an injection to hopefully help but it may just be a time thing. The nerve has been so compressed for the past eleven months that it will take time to heal. He said it most likely will.

If anyone is curious about the Spine Jacks look them up. They are made by Stryker.

Hi Ron, it is great you don’t have to take pain meds. That is my goal. Pain meds only seem to take the edge off of the pain for me. Yet I am grateful it’s only mild pain. Hope you continue to do well. Have a great Thanksgiving! Love the picture 👍

Jeff,
Some doctors are super skilled at kyphoplasty and others aren’t. Make sure you get a good doctor. Your Oncologist probably knows who is best.
