Recent Diagnosis Of MM, Oncology Wants To Do A Bone Marrow Biopsy, Is There Risk In Cancer Cells Being Released, How Painful?
Hi Dan, I had 3 of them. 1 just with some injections to numb the area. Was no fun at all. The other 2 I had with something like anesthesia very light. Still a little bit out but not completely. I like this much better ๐I would recommend it. I am super brave but this drilling and pushing and asking if you are still doing fine annoys me. Now that I know they can use anesthesia I could do it anytime. After this procedure you can walk and it is not painful at all. Easier than going to a cleaning appointment to a dentist. You will see. All the best for you ๐น๐
My husband had about 8-10 of them over the course of his treatment. They always gave him anesthesia and he never felt anything and the next day he was a little sore.
i hyperventilated watching the video but thank u for reassurance. does the anathesisa work to numb it so u dont feel the pain and waht about the next day, this is not my disease to have
Welcome Dan,definitely worth it to have the biopsy. It gives so much info that is needed to diagnose and treat.
The next day no problem. Even when youโre done you can drive home.
During the procedure the doctor is using a lot of โscrewingโ motion to penetrate the bone. Most of the time there is no pain at all.
What happens is a small guide hole is first made. Then that apple corer tool is inserted to really get into the meat of marrow. The doctor will try to pull out 3/4 of an inch of material for testing. Results take 10 days to 2 weeks.
You will feel a sensation going down the back of your leg as the sample is pulled.
In my three biopsies only one was a yell. Thats because a nurse practitioner did the job. She had to lay me on my stomach so she could use her body weight to push down on my back.
She happened to be the daughter in law of my good drinking buddy so there was a family connection.
โWe have to stop meeting like this.โ I told her laughing.
My main oncologist performed the other two and he wants to do the future ones.
I constantly let him know how I feel by repeating โIโm ok, Iโm okโ
When he hits a nerve he backs off.
He is 63 from Uruguay (with German background) and has a heavy accent. So he reminds me of Sir Lawrence Olivier in Marathon Man saying, โis it safe?โ
