Have To Travel For My Stem Cell Harvest. Wondering How Many Days This Procedure Requires, Including Any Pre-testing?

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Minnesota City, MN

I’m only harvesting my stem cells (praying I never need to use them.)
My husband and I need to make plans for lodging and time away from our home. Just wondering if someone could give me a guesstimate on how long that might be?
I realize things come up and harvest days may vary.
Mayo Clinic wants to do it in just over a month. So without any appointments set yet (waiting on insurance clearance) I’m just curious about what to plan for. Thanks!

I don't know the T-cell collection procedure too well, but it's my understanding they use a chemo-like product to stimulate the production of T-cells.

There's one member on this Forum that mentioned he Harvested his T-cells just fine, without getting the chemo-like Stimulation Med.

There's an opinion from Dr Berenson (Onc in Beverly Hills, California) that published a Paper suggesting that the Stimulation Collection Meds can harm the bone-marrow microbiome.

Patricia7 Posted this at the FB Forum - Beating MM with a Naturopathic Approach (using MM Meds with the compliment of a Plant Based Diet and Key Supplements - also see Dr Brandy's EBook on the subject of Beating MM with Diet & Meds)

As for myself, I'm MRD Neg at 10 -6 (none per million). I take No MM Meds, I have Not had a SCT, have Not Harvested my T-cells and have regained very good CBCs, CMPs, completely Normal Infection Markers and an excellent K/L Ratio.

K/L = 1.28, KLC = 10.52, LLC = 8.23 - Labs from 5/13/24
Absolutely the best since my original Diag in 2021 at Stage 3, 208 K/L, t4;14 and a long list other terrible levels.

I'm 70 and have no plans to Harvest, do not expect I'll ever need a SCT, and I will definitely take Action on any New MM Activity (short term Revlimid & Dex with weekly Labs).

Recently, I tested my Natural Killer Cells and Omega 3/6.
NKCells are our best defense against DNA mutations and pathogens of all sorts. My test from about 3 weeks ago has 17% NKCells, up from 11% at the peak of my Bone Lesion (last Sept) which was instantly resolved with a very short duration of low dose Revlimid and Dex. My Omega 3/6 placed me at a Cardiac Low Risk.

My Labs have never been this good in 40 years or more. My Bone Lesion Event this last Aug was a god-send for me - it caused me to learn about Diet & Supplements, added to MM Meds. For me, this new combo of Less & Best is working extremely well. To make sure I'm not fooling myself, I get full Monthly MM Labs and Quarterly blood sample clonoSEQ MRD Testing - as long as I'm Negative, No MM Meds - Just Monitoring.

I've invested plenty of time since 2021 in learning about my Labs and every aspect of MM. We must have the Meds but I've seen extended use lead to serious complications, due to a beaten down immune system, having no way to defend i

Granted, we're all very different and respond quite differently but I can say for sure, that I've responded like two different people. My original in 2021, being very good but very traditional with many complications and illnesses during and after treatment - for the first year.

Now with my Diet & Supplements, a brief treatment of Revlimid & Dex (Sept 23') - all my Oncs, Specialists, and Docs simply and repeatedly said -
" I don't understand but it's great news - keep up whatever you're doing ".

All the Best

The nurses said men usually get enough cells quicker than females.

It was one day, four hours to harvest my stem cells, I was told to expect 2 days if the numbers were low. Transplant completed July 2021.
