I Would Like To Know Do You Have To Have A Bone Biopsy Before And After A Stem Cell Transplant?
I am high risk MM and I had a bone marrow transplant right before my SCT and one around 60 days after. This was one of the tests that my doctor used to determine whether I was in remission.
I had a bone marrow test to make confirm that I had MM and went into my treatment plan. I also had an MRI prior to the bone marrow test. However I am in the controlled treatment stage and my last 12 months of blood draws results in NOT DETECTED. I don't think I would be required to have another bone marrow test unless the VA requires it due to my disability status. I'll ask my doctor/oncologist at my next visit.
Amen and Amen 🙏 Jack
A bone biopsy is o e of the diagnostic tools generally used to confirm a person has MM. That would, of course, be prior to a SCT. I have never heard of one after it. I did not because my bloodwork indicated the MM was undetectable- meaning remission.
Yes, you should have one. Most people have one at 100 days post transplant. Mine was 60 days post transplant due to high risk genetics 👍🙏💪
I had a bone biopsy before my transplant and one every six months afterwards. I asked my oncologist how long do I have to get it done and he said for two years. Not too bad since that’s just twice a year for two years.
I Am Approaching Time For My Stem Cell Transplant…would Love To Hear How That Went From Anyone Who Has Had One.
